چکیده

In this paper, we consider the problem of incorporating additional preference information into Value Efficiency Analysis by using the “price” information of inputs and outputs. This is done to improve the accuracy of the estimation of the Value Efficiency Scores. Value Efficiency developed by Halme et al. [1999] is an efficiency concept, which takes into account the decision maker’s preferences. Value Efficiency Analysis is based on the assumption that an implicitly known value function reaches its maximum at the Most Preferred Solution on the efficient frontier. The Most Preferred solution is an input-output vector preferred to all other possible input-output vectors. The ultimate goal is to measure a need to improve (radially) the values of inputs and/or outputs to make them equally preferred to the Most Preferred Solution. Because we do not know the value function, we approximate the indifference curves of all possible value functions satisfying certain assumptions by their tangents at the Most Preferred Solution. The resulting cone of the tangents consists of points less or equally preferred to the Most Preferred Solution. However, in addition to the Most Preferred Solution information about the “prices” of inputs and outputs may be available as well. We show how this information can be incorporated into the analysis and illustrate the approach by an example on the performance of municipal dental units in Finland.

Minimizing the Weights dispersion in Cross-Efficiency Measurement in data envelopment analysis

Because of the piecewise linear nature of the data envelopment analysis (DEA) frontier, the optimal multipliers of the DEA models may not be unique. Choosing weights from alternative optimal solutions of dual multiplier models is one of the most frequently studied subjects in the context of DEA. In this paper, the authors have been inspired by the idea of Cooper et al. (2011) to propose a li...

Sustainable Supplier Selection: A New Integrated Approach of Fuzzy Interpretive Structural Modeling and Dynamic Network Data Envelopment Analysis

Data envelopment analysis (DEA), as a well-established nonparametric method, is used to meet efficiency evaluation purposes in many businesses, organizations, and decision units. This paper aims to present a novel integrated approach to fuzzy interpretive structural modeling (FISM) and dynamic network data envelopment analysis (DNDEA) for the selection and ranking of sustainable suppliers. Firs...

Modified Goal Programming Approach for Improving the Discrimination Power and Weights Dispersion

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a technique based on linear programming (LP) to measure the relative efficiency of homogeneous units by considering inputs and outputs. The lack of discrimination among efficient decision making units (DMUs) and unrealistic input-outputs weights have been known as the drawback of DEA. In this paper the new scheme based on a goal programming data envelopment an...

Practical common weights MOLP approach for efficiency analysis

A characteristic of data envelopment analysis (DEA) is to allow individual decision making units (DMUs) to select the factor weights that are the most advantages for them in calculating their efficiency scores. This flexibility in selecting the weights, on the other hand, deters the comparison among DMUs on a common base. For dealing with this difficulty and assessing all the DMUs on the same s...

Shapley value-based multi-objective data envelopment analysis application for assessing academic efficiency of university departments

This paper adopts a modified approach of data envelopment analysis (DEA) to measure the academic efficiency of university departments. In real-world case studies, conventional DEA models often identify too many decision-making units (DMUs) as efficient. This occurs when the number of DMUs under evaluation is not large enough compared to the total number of decision variables. To overcome this l...
